Tourism is an important source of income for people in Zanzibar. Overall women and people in rural areas have so far been little involved in tourism and therefore cannot benefit financially from it. Volunteers at the Cultural Art Center help local artists develop and market sustainable products.

Village Community Banks (VICOBA) allow people who do not have access to conventional bank accounts funds for financing their projects, such as small businesses, agriculture or education for their children.
