In the forests around Karuizawa you can join a conversation project for Asian Black Bears, carried out by the Wildlife Research Centre. You will assist the team to tag Black Bears with radio collars and to keep the bears away from humans. Furthermore you can assist with guided visitor tours through the forest. This volunteer placement is possible in English language.

This virtual internship with a world-leading bear protection project in Japan is aimed at students of biology, zoology, veterinary medicine and other related fields. The program takes place with a leading sea turtle conservation organization on the subtropical island of Okinawa, Japan. From April to July, you support nightly beach patrols to document nesting activity. In August and September, you assist with the hatching of baby turtles. Year-round, you contribute to beach cleanups, environmental education, fundraising, and data analysis.

At several National Parks in Japan you can volunteer in nature-based tourism and cultural tourism. It is part of your tasks to provide information to guests at the parks' visitor centres and on guided tours about nature and culture, and to support the team in various tasks related to management, operations, marketing, conservation and tourism development.
