Working hours are generally from Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 3 PM. The projects are accessible by public transport from the volunteer accommodation.
The healthcare system in Tanzania is somewhat different from what you are likely used to in your home country. Although there is modern medical care available, access to it largely depends on the income and financial capabilities of the patients. Many Tanzanians have little or no health insurance. We collaborate with hospitals that have varying levels of funding, where you will assist nurses and doctors in patient care, help with surgeries, and perform many other tasks where an extra hand is needed. Your responsibilities will depend on your prior knowledge, experience, and the current needs of the hospitals. You will not have to do anything you are not comfortable with. Internships in these hospitals are recognized by universities!
The hospitals cover many areas of modern medicine, including:
Pediatrics
HIV/AIDS
A malaria and tuberculosis clinic
Eye and dental care
Mental health and physiotherapy
A maternity ward
An operating room
As a trained nurse or doctor, you can expand your knowledge by taking on meaningful tasks in supporting doctors and other nurses. The local doctors are very helpful, and you can assist them in treating diseases that no longer exist in the Western world, which can be a unique experience.
In Tanzania, there is a shortage of medications, diagnostic equipment, education, and more. For this reason, the work of volunteers is greatly appreciated!
Support our hospitals and help us improve healthcare for Tanzanians. Discover an amazing country and a new culture.
