BCC Day Care Centers in Moshi
A program run by the Lutheran Church provides special needs children and youth access to education and therapy at various day-care centers in the Moshi Town, Tanzania. The activities and services at these facilities are adapted to the individual needs of these children and youth.
Activities for volunteers include: support the children in learning, developing and conducting learning activities, volunteers with professional qualifications physiotherapy and occupational therapy can apply there skills, integrating the children and youth into everyday tasks at the facilities such as tidying and cleaning, washing clothes etc., building up and furthering individual abilities and to promote self esteem. The organization also provide out home based support to children and youth who are unable to attend the day care centers.
Rehabilitation Center in Moshi
The project runs a kindergarten/preschool as well as a primary school for children with and without special needs, following an integrative educational concept. Furthermore, the center provides ergo therapeutic services and parental training. An outreach program aims to educate the community about people with disabilities and tries to reduce prejudices.
In this project, internships in special education and ergo therapy can be completed under the guidance of local specialists.
Schools for Special Needs Children & Youth
Both in Moshi Town as well as in rural areas of Tanzania, there are schools for children youth with special needs. The students are usually deaf or visually impaired. Volunteers can assist the local staff in the classroom, teach English, or individually support the students.
