The hospital is located about an hour away from the center of Cusco. It is the only facility of its kind in the area and provides first aid and basic medical care to the approximately 7500 inhabitants of the nearby communities. Due to the location in the Peruvian Andes and the fact that 85% of the locals still speak the language of the Incas ("Quechua"), as a volunteer you will experience traditional Andean life up close!
Your activities at the "Centro de Salud":
For a 4 week stay, you will visit each ward for one week: It starts in the office with administrative tasks (e.g., admitting patients, entering patient reports). After that, a week of assisting with deliveries. Then assistance at the dentist and finally assistance with general medical tasks (e.g. vaccinations for children). If you stay longer, you can choose a ward after that.
As a volunteer, you will mainly care for children and elderly people in the clinic, as these groups represent the largest part of the population.
After working in the hospital, you will receive an official Peruvian internship certificate. Whether this is recognized in France must be clarified in each individual case (due to the different standards, however, recognition as a mandatory internship is rather problematic).
- Medical internship in a hospital with administrative activities
- Care for children and elderly people in different wards
- Support health care in a rural area in the Andes
