In Uganda, you can support the education and training of girls and women. They often lack knowledge, e.g. about contraception. This puts them in a difficult situation. Because 1 in 6 girls have to drop out of school due to pregnancy. In addition, many girls are married off early and therefore have little chance of leading a self-determined life. You can counteract this difficult situation with your work as a volunteer. You can either work in the awareness-raising project or in the education sector. Both projects are run by non-profit organizations that are committed to improving the quality of life of girls and women in Uganda.
Volunteering in the awareness-raising project
In this project, you will focus on educational work on the topics of equal rights, women's health and contraception. You can get involved in various areas of work. A central task is educational work in schools, community and health centers. Here you inform girls and women in particular about pregnancy, health and family planning. With the appropriate prior knowledge, you can also help to compile and disseminate gender training toolkits. You can also work in the organizational area. For example, you can help maintain the website or publish an information magazine.
Volunteering in the education sector
This project aims to improve the educational opportunities of girls and women. Minorities and members of the community who suffer from exclusion - for example people infected with HIV and AIDS - are deliberately targeted here. As a volunteer, you will be involved in various educational programs for children, young people and women. For example, you will help with wine production, tailor training or the production of handicrafts. The proceeds from the goods sold go to a girls' school. There you will also support the teachers in English lessons, for example. Contribute your own ideas and introduce new teaching methods, for example.
