The Tanzanian education system is structured somewhat differently from what you are used to in your home countries. Not only the access to educational opportunities and the associated educational chances depend strongly on the income of the family, but also the way in which knowledge is taught.
Even in early childhood education, children are taught to read, write and calculate without much focus on playing and acquiring knowledge through games.
Basic English skills are taught early in the curriculum, where you can support the teachers and caregivers.
Especially the missing playful aspect of the curriculum is something you can actively participate in and creatively contribute to.
In our partner schools, you will assist teachers in teaching English, maths, history, politics, science, life skills, sports and art, depending on your wishes and knowledge.
You are also welcome to actively participate in lesson plans and conduct small lessons yourself, if you wish to do so.
Therefore, there are hardly any limits to your creativity. In addition to helping with teaching , you have the opportunity to set up your own afternoon projects, such as football games or reading sessions. In addition, you can also get involved in general school tasks, such as helping to cook lunch, repairing equipment or decorating the school with creative projects.
The working hours are usually from Monday to Friday from 8am to 3pm. All projects are within walking distance or a short bus ride from the volunteer accommodation.
Support our cooperation with the educational projects and help us to improve the educational opportunities of Tanzanian children. Get involved with a breathtaking country and a new culture. Teach and learn from each other.
Depending on the length of your stay, you can experience the impact and change that your work brings about.
You can actively help to improve the teaching and learning conditions as well as gain a lot of experience as a teacher. Either way, you will put a smile on the children's faces and have a great time.
