The organization offers different programs to improve the living conditions of people living in informal settlements:
Street Ministry Porgram: The social workers visit 3 informal settlements regularly and help the inhabitants to get access to healthcare facilities, psychotherapy or drug withdrawal programs and consult them on other programs of their organization. The program is furthermore offered to homeless people of the townships.
Skills Development Program: The organization also offers programs to people living in informal settlements, which aim to enable them to gain skills and knowledge to facilitate access to the labor market. The courses include offers on the topics of communication, health, social presentation, relationships as well as hard skills such as computer skills, plumbing, electrical installation work, welding, Math, reading and sports.
Prevention Program: Another focus lies on the prevention work for children and adolescents that informs and educates them in a playful way about topics such as drugs, crime, HIV, homelessness and life planning.
Retirement Home: The program also provides entertainment and offers occupational activities for retired people.
As a volunteer, you can take part in all of the programs from Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm and gain a comprehensive insight into the valuable social work of NGO in Cape Town.
In addition, volunteers engage in other activities such as attending team meetings, cleanups, painting and decorating, sorting and managing donations, and simple administrative activities. Fridays are usually off, except for when there is an event.
