In South Africa, there is a lack of trained teachers. Therefore, there is often only frontal teaching in the classes. Many of the children fall by the wayside and learning success is lacking. Teachers hardly have time to meet the needs of individuals. With your volunteer work, you can help to give children a new perspective, for example, attending secondary school.
Volunteering in schools
The project is suitable for high school graduates and students, for example. You can teach children at the schools without any pedagogical knowledge. Due to the lack of teachers, your help is definitely needed and appreciated.
Since the students are always very excited when a new face comes to the school, you will initially sit in on classes for the first week. This will give you time to get to know the institution, your colleagues and the children. Slowly but surely, you will then take on tasks yourself, up to and including teaching independently.
Volunteering at the After School Club
The after-school club looks after children and young people aged between 6 and 18. As a volunteer, you give the children and young people the attention they often don't get at home. The project offers them a safe and caring environment. You will provide tutoring and help with homework supervision. It is very important to empower children and young people and to show them a life without violence, drugs or peer pressure. You can also think of your own workshops to teach further skills.
Volunteering in an aid project for neglected children
This project provides a refuge for children from difficult backgrounds. The main location is a school. You will help the children to reintegrate into a normal school system. Many of them have to struggle with their difficult past and are often traumatized. You will support the teachers in class. You will supervise and motivate the children. Your volunteer work will open up new prospects for the children.
