Pays d’action: Zambie, Afrique
Type d’activité: Ecovolontariat
Immerse yourself into Zambia's wilderness and become involved in conserving wildlife and biodiversity. Contribute to elephant conservation in one of the most superb wilderness areas and gain insight into real species conservation! During your 3-week volunteer adventure, you will spend each week in a different location in this fascinating country – from the capital of Lusaka to Kafue National Park.

Description du projet et du rôle des volontaires

Details
You will start your volunteer adventure at Lilayi Elephant Orphanage near Lusaka where you will spend your first seven days.

Here, you and your team members will be involved in biodiversity surveys in Lusaka National Park, vegetation and transect surveys, identifying and tracking wildlife through spoor and scat observations and different community outreach projects.

The second week takes place in Musa Camp, located in awe-inspiring Kafue National Park. Here you will meet the rangers and discover how the anti-poaching units operate. Moreover, you will help complete biodiversity surveys and carry out community outreach projects.

The third week is also spent in Kafue National Park, at the programme’s Release Facility. Biodiversity surveys, community outreach projects, learning about our partner’s elephant rehabilitation and release programme, training in elephant behavioural observation studies as well as staff capacity building belong to the typical volunteer tasks.

At the end of their stay, volunteers will be driven to Livingstone where they can experience the wonders of the majestic Victoria Falls before returning home equipped with an incomparable insight into the thematic areas of community outreach, wildlife rescue and resource protection.

Please note the hands-off policy: for ethical reasons, only professional employees are allowed direct contact with the elephants.

Accommodation
In Lusaka, you will be accommodated in the project’s Elephant Nursery near Lusaka. Here you will get your own tent and use shared sanitary facilities.

In Kafue National Park, one of your two stations will be Musa Camp where you can also find the Field Headquarters. You will have your own tent with bedding being provided and use shared sanitary facilities (incl. hot water).

Your third camp is the Kafue Release Facility, about a 45-minute drive from Musa Camp. Here you will also be accommodated in your own little tent, equipped with a mattress and bedding, and use shared sanitary facilities.

As a volunteer you will receive three meals per day which will be prepared as a team. You will have one off-day per week which you can use to explore the surrounding area.
