Are you ready to join a team dedicated to safeguarding endangered species in Guatemala? Welcome to the wildlife conservation project in Petén! Since 1989, the centre has been rescuing and rehabilitating illegally trafficked animals, combatting illegal trade, and promoting rewilding efforts.
Volunteers will support the care and rehabilitation of rescued animals such as parrots, macaws, monkeys, reptiles, and more while learning all about the threats that these animals face and how they can be combated. Your work directly impacts animal welfare. By offering consistent support through preparing food and maintaining enclosures, you ensure the best chance for the animals’ daily improvement, leading to an eventual release back into the wild. Additionally, you will be working side by side with veterinarians and animal welfare specialists to learn about species-specific behaviour, habitat, and needs, all while gaining insight into the big picture of wildlife conservation in Guatemala.
The project also operates an educational facility, where local and international visitors can learn about the consequences of the exotic animal’s trade and learn of the importance of supporting wildlife conservation efforts.
Certified by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the project upholds the highest standards of animal welfare and ensures that everyone adheres to a strict protocol centred around the animal’s wellbeing. Join us in this exciting volunteer adventure to make a difference in the lives of these remarkable creatures!
