This family volunteer project is perfect for children aged 8 or more, and for those who are interested in working with mistreated or orphaned baboons. Primates in South Africa have a tough time of it, often being shot by farmers, run over by cars or attacked by wild animals. Orphaned and injured primates are brought from all over the country to this specialist rehabilitation centre which nurtures them back to health and sets them on a path back to the wild.
You and your family will be helping with food preparation, preparation in the milk kitchen, cleaning, creating enrichments, and if lucky handling the young (not guaranteed). This project is located on the edge of the great Kruger National Park where you can enjoy picnics to spot wildlife who are also free to walk right through the larger enclosures!
This project includes a general tour, a welcome presentation and a baboon behaviour presentation. All very enticing your young and eager, conservationist children of the future!
You will live on-site in a family room with a shared bathroom and toilet and become part of the family community. Enjoy evening chatting with the staff and other volunteers around a traditional South Africa Braai. Shower under the stars and soak up all that this beautiful part of the world has to offer your family!
