Are you interested in human rights and women's rights in Africa? We arrange virtual internships with NGOs and law firms in Tanzania that offer free legal advice for women, children, people with disabilities and minorities. They also create training materials, media contents, events and campaigns to improve the legal knowledge of the population and are committed to fighting corruption.
With this remote internship you have the chance to be part of the work of a Tanzanian law firm or NGO in the legal field and to learn from the lawyers.
You will support the local team in drafting reports, drafting legal and court documents and drafting contents on legal topics for websites, social media channels, Tanzanian media or newsletters. In addition, interns support their organisation with fundraising. During this internship, you will gain an insight into the Tanzanian legal system, which follows the Commonwealth Law as it is in worldwide use, and you will campaign for equal treatment and anti-discrimination. You can also review case studies and discuss them with your internship supervisor, a qualified lawyer.
For this online internship, you don't travel to Tanzania yourself, but you communicate with your internship supervisor abroad using services such as Skype, Zoom or Google Meets. At the end you will of course get an internship certificate.
You can decide for yourself how many hours per week you want to do the virtual internship (6-40 hours per week are possible). This includes the time you work on tasks that your internship supervisor (lawyer) gives you as well as the time you have online supervision/feedback sessions (which are usually 2-3 times a week for 1-2 hours). Any duration from 2 weeks to 6 months is possible.
Prior to the start of the internship, there is an online meeting in which you will first receive a cultural briefing on the Tanzanian work environment from us and then you will discuss the aims of your internship, your exact tasks and your schedule with the lawyer. Your interests can be specifically addressed.
