Description du projet et du rôle des volontaires

Your job site as a carpenter in Ghana
Your job site in Ghana is a carpentry workshop where sustainable furniture is made from bamboo, a rapidly renewable raw material. The aim is to create training and jobs and to protect the local environment. The apprentices and carpenters make the furniture by hand and take care of ongoing repairs and construction work.

In addition, the carpenters can take part in further training. Experts also regularly visit the facility to share their knowledge of the natural material.

The aim of the project is to open up new employment opportunities, particularly for the poorer local population and gold miners. In addition, the use of fast-growing bamboo means that less forest has to be cleared, thus protecting the environment. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the goods go to a charitable project that promotes the use of bamboo.

Your tasks in the bamboo workshop in Ghana
You will carry out various projects together with the workers. For example, you will draw and plan chairs, tables, shelves, boxes or toys, which you will then build and maintain. You will gain extensive insight into the craft of furniture making. You will also learn how to use the simplest, most common tools in the processing of the natural material bamboo.

Your creativity is also in demand! For example, you can research innovative ideas for furniture and accessory production on the internet and think about possible combinations with available materials such as stones, driftwood, coconuts, etc. Depending on your craftsmanship, you are also welcome to create something new. In addition, there are always tasks related to maintaining the facility, such as repairing fences, roofing, and so on.

Your typical workday in the carpentry shop
You usually work Monday through Friday, about 7 hours a day each day. However, the hours also depend on the weather.
