Come contribute to this volunteer project focused on the repopulation and rewilding of the endangered wild Przewalski horse. Although these horses once lived freely in large numbers among the hills and valleys of central Asia, they are now on the verge of extinction, with the few remaining horses primarily kept in captivity. Our partner organisation has been working gallantly to create a wild and open protected area that mimics their original natural habitat. Here, they are rewilded and allowed to safely reproduce, with the ultimate goal of reintroducing them back to their native habitat in Mongolia.
As a species and nature conservation volunteer, you will live and work on the breathtaking high plains of south-central France as you work side by side with a team of experts to employ the goals and methodologies of the project. You will assist with field observations, data collection, species identification and monitoring, and the processing of information to be used in educational settings.
Conservation activities are interspersed with cultural heritage and wilderness exploration opportunities, to assure that volunteers are able to experience the unique beauty of this region.
Depending on the summer month that you join, activity themes vary from horse behaviour studies to monitoring horse health to researching bird and insect species in collaboration with naturalists from the neighbouring Cevennes National Park. All months include key activities such as field observations of the horses in the wild, and further data collection and analysis.
