Field Guide Training - Once in a lifetime
The Field Guide Level 1 course will provide you with lasting knowledge and unforgettable experiences! Over 55 immersive days, you'll embark on long walks and expeditions, guided by a professionally qualified instructor, as you gain in-depth knowledge of South Africa's diverse ecosystems. You'll delve into the fascinating world of plants, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals, learning how they interact within the intricate web of the South African environment.

This course offers a multifaceted learning experience. You'll master orientation and navigation techniques in open country, including using the stars for determining your geographical position. Daily excursions will teach you how to handle an open cross-country vehicle, ensuring you can navigate even the toughest terrain safely. Your training also covers the basics of South African geology, climate, tracking, animal behavior analysis, and species identification, enabling you to recognize native plants, trees, birds, and animals—often just by their calls.

Beyond the natural sciences, you'll gain valuable insights into Africa's tourism industry and history, deepening your understanding of the continent's challenges and opportunities. You'll explore the pressing issues of modern conservation, such as species preservation and maintaining natural habitats amidst global environmental changes. Throughout your time in South Africa, you'll witness firsthand how conservation efforts are implemented, what strategies are effective, and how various factors can influence ecosystem development positively or negatively.

By taking an active part in animal protection and nature conservation, you are making a valuable contribution towards this objective. And as a side effect, you will learn to understand and treasure “nature at its best” from a completely different angle.
