About the horse farm project
Your place of work is a South African horse farm near the famous Kruger National Park. Here, the horses live mainly in the wild and are cared for by the horse farm team. As a volunteer, you will accompany guided tours for horse-riding tourists. The project is the perfect mix of volunteer work and vacation on a farm. An unforgettable experience for all horse lovers!
Your tasks in the horse farm project
As a volunteer, you will take care of the horses, accompany rides and help with the maintenance and upkeep of the grounds. Working as part of a team with the farm staff and other volunteers, you will feed and water the horses, muck out the stables and keep the paddocks clean. You will groom the animals, make sure they have no injuries and help with training. In addition, you will be available to assist guests.
The farm also runs a community gardening project that you can support by growing food.
Your tasks will also include cooking, cleaning and doing laundry. You will live in a shared flat with the other volunteers right at your place of work.
Your daily routine in the horse farm project
The days at the horse farm start early. They start at 7:00 in the morning! Together with the other volunteers, you will be taken to the horses. Then it's time to feed, water, and clean out the stables, and to take care of the animals' fur. If a ride with guests is on the agenda afterwards, you prepare the horses for it by harnessing them and helping the guests to mount and later dismount. You also assist the tourists during the rides. After the tour, you take care of the animals and put the riding equipment back in its place. At the end of each day, you and the other volunteers cook a delicious dinner.
In consultation with the local staff, you can take time off to explore South Africa. See the wildlife in Kruger National Park, go quad biking or take a bush walk!
