The working hours are usually from Monday to Friday from 9am until the afternoon. The project can be reached by public transport from the volunteer accommodation.
Elang'ata Agrovet Services was founded in 1997 by experienced veterinarian and farmer Dr Everest Maguo and his wife Evelyn. Their vision was to bring new skills and technologies to local farmers and provide them with comprehensive advice on animal care, environmental protection and sustainable agriculture. Dr Maguo and Evelyn are committed to sharing the knowledge and techniques needed to increase agricultural productivity while protecting the environment.
As well as looking after their own garden and animal sanctuary, they take the time to visit schools and farms. There they explain the importance of sustainable agriculture and demonstrate practical methods of how farmers can improve their yields without harming the environment. Their work goes far beyond theoretical advice; they also offer practical workshops and demonstrations to ensure that farmers can apply the new techniques effectively.
Elang'ata Agrovet Services is also actively involved in animal welfare. Together with local and international volunteers, they regularly organise deworming campaigns for street dogs and large-scale vaccination campaigns against rabies. These initiatives are crucial for animal health and help prevent the spread of diseases that can affect both animals and humans.
The project has an impressive infrastructure that allows them to offer a variety of services. These include a modern laboratory, a specially equipped agricultural room for practical training, a well-stocked pharmacy with medicines and veterinary products and two operating theatres. In these operating theatres, dogs and cats are treated and operated on to ensure that they receive the best possible medical care.
Through these comprehensive measures, Elang'ata Agrovet Services is making a significant contribution to improving agricultural practices and animal health in the region. By working in this project, you can improve environmental protection in Tanzania and learn a lot about the treatment of street animals.
